Dr. Ruma Arora

Dr. Ruma Arora is working as an Associate Professor in the Engineering Science Department at Chameli Devi Group of Institutions (CDGI), Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She has extensive experience in teaching, research, academic administration, and institutional development. She completed her Ph.D. in “Experimental Analysis of Spirulina Cultivation in Open Pond and Photobioreactor” from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, in July 2020. She holds an M.Tech. in Nanotechnology from UTD–RGPV, Bhopal, with a CGPA of 8.34, and an M.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute, Vidisha, with 70.40%.

Dr. Arora's major research interests include Applied Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, Nanotechnology, Nanochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Bioenergy, Biofuels, Bio-sciences, Renewable Energy, and Sustainable Technologies. Her doctoral and research work has particularly focused on Spirulina cultivation, microalgal biomass, biofuels, biohydrogen, biophotovoltaics, photobioreactors, and sustainable energy applications.

She has a strong research profile with 30+ research papers published in international SCI/ESCI/SCIE, Scopus-indexed and peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters published by Springer/CRC Press, and 50+ papers presented at conferences. Her publications cover areas such as Spirulina biomass, microalgal cultivation, biohydrogen, bioelectricity, nanomaterials, iron oxide nanoparticles, green chemistry, photobioreactors, and sustainable energy. Her research publications have received more than 1,397 citations, as reported in her ResearchGate profile.

Dr. Arora has also contributed significantly to research leadership and institutional development. At CDGI, she has served in several important academic and administrative roles, including Professor-in-Charge of the Research & Development Cell, Head of Engineering Chemistry Department, Faculty Advisor for IEEE and Institution of Engineers student chapters, Professor-in-Charge of the Library, Head of the Energy Swaraj Club, Chief Warden of the Girls' Hostel, Chief Editor of the Saptrang Magazine, NBA & NAAC Coordinator Member, and Core Member of the Citronics Annual Techno-Management Fest.

She has also played an active role in organizing and coordinating international conferences, national conferences, technical events, science programs, environmental awareness activities, and student development initiatives. She has served as Convener of the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence on Smart Progress in Advanced Research & Knowledge (AI-SPARK 2026) and Convener of the International Conference on Recent Challenges in Engineering Science and Advanced Technology (RCESAT-2025). She has also been a core member of Citronics, CDGI's annual techno-management fest, and has organized various academic and scientific activities at the institute.

Her academic achievements include prestigious recognitions such as the Young South Asian Researcher Award on Sustainable Consumption and Production (2016) at TERI University, New Delhi, and the People’s Choice Award at the Women in Space Leadership Programme (WiSLP) held at IIT Indore in 2025, organized by UKIERI, DST, British Council, and Coventry University. She has also received reviewer recognition from reputed publications/organizations including Algal Research (Elsevier), Marine Biology Research, and Environmental Quality Centre.

Dr. Arora is actively associated with professional and academic organizations. Her memberships include IEEE, The Institution of Engineers (India), Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Indian Association for Hydrogen Energy and Advanced Materials (IAHEAM), European Federation of Biotechnology, and The Royal Society of Biology. She is also a life member of the alumni associations of MANIT Bhopal and RGPV Bhopal.

She has completed several NPTEL certifications, including Non-Conventional Energy Resources, Technologies for Clean and Renewable Energy Production (Silver Elite), and Selection of Nanomaterials for Energy Harvesting and Energy Storage (Elite). She has also participated in and organized several Faculty Development Programmes, Short-Term Training Programmes, workshops, seminars, and professional training programmes in areas such as R Programming, research funding opportunities, green audit, energy audit, renewable energy, nanotechnology, biofuels, and sustainable technologies.
